An OSU Student's Gratitude

December 2, 2007
By: Jay

Dear University of Pittsburgh and Oklahoma University,

Thank you for winning your games yesterday. I feel safe to say that Ohio State students have moved Pitt and OU up on their list of favorite schools.

I would personally like to thank Pitt’s Chancellor Mark Nordenberg and Interim Athletic Director Donna Sanft for giving Dave Wannstedt a contract extension, until 2012, this week.

LeSean McCoy showed up Noel Devine in this 100th edition of the Backyard Brawl. Pitt’s freshman RB McCoy rushed 38 times for 148 yards; Devine rushed 7 times for 11 yards for the Mountaineers. McCoy is the first freshman RB a Pitt to rush for 1,000 yards in a season since Tony Dorsett. Watch out nation, we might have a resurgence of the Panthers in the next few years.

Pitt beat WVU 13-9. Pat White was injured in the first half (right thumb), so backup QB Jarrett Brown was called into the game. He had a fairly decent performance: 4-6 with 29 yards in the air and 29 yards rushing with one touchdown.

Now on to those Sooners. Bob Stoops and Company,

Thank you for beating Missouri twice this season and congratulations on the Big XII Championship. Oklahoma beat Number 1 Missouri yesterday 38-17. Once again a freshman has a big game. OU QB Sam Bradford was 18 for 26 for 209 yards with 2 TDs. Mizzou QB Chase Daniel was 23 for 39 for 219 yards with no TDs and 1 interception.

After the last week of the regular season, now let’s look at the BCS rankings.

The top 2 teams in the BCS lost; therefore, 3 and 4 should play in the National Championship Game right? Not necessarily. Ohio State Buckeyes (11-1) were ranked number 3; Georgia Bulldogs (10-2) were number 4. In this week’s AP Top 25 Poll, as of Sunday December 2nd, Ohio State is number 1 and LSU is number 2, followed by Oklahoma and then Georgia. The USA Today Poll has the same teams in the top four. Now we just have to wait for the Harris Poll, Computer Rankings and thus the overall BCS Rankings.

By the way, there is an undefeated team this season. Number 10 in the USA Today Poll Hawaii is 12-0 and WAC Champs.

Clearly Ohio State will play in the BCS Championship game, but it is anyone’s guess who number two will be. I personally believe Oklahoma Sooners should get in. But since everyone who matters in the BCS voting process loves the SEC, LSU Tigers, the SEC Champs will most likely get the second bid to the game.

Once again, thank you University of Pittsburgh Panthers and Oklahoma University Sooners for giving OSU students something to celebrate on the eve of their Finals Week.

Sincerely,

Jay

OSU Student
