NCAA Preview For Week 9

October 24, 2007
By: Jay

Thursday Night Game:

Boston College (2) at Virginia Tech (8)

Yet again another great Thursday match up. Look for QB Matt Ryan to make or break his Heisman candidacy in this game. The undefeated Eagles, did not play last week, visit the Hokies. VT is 6-1, losing only to LSU in Week 2. This ACC battle will be one of the best games of the week. The Hokies RBs Branden Ore and Kenny Lewis need to lead their offense in order to pull the upset. Can Tech avenge their loss to BC last year (22-3)? Prediction: Boston College 31 Virginia Tech 27.

Saturday Games:

West Virginia (7) at Rutgers (27)

Can QB Mike Teel lead the Scarlet Knights to a second upset in two weeks? Not on Steve Slaton and Pat White’s watch. The 6-1 Mountaineers win an offensive battle. As long as White’s injury does not bother him, Rutgers will lose. WVU over Rutgers 38-28.

Southern Cal (12) at Oregon (5)

The home field advantage will be the difference in this game. That is the game is not in the Coliseum; therefore, the Ducks have the advantage. Dennis Dixon (QB) will keep his good season going. Both teams are 6-1 and 3-1 in the Pac-10. It goes without saying that this is a huge Pac-10 game. Ducks win 36 to 24.

Ohio State (1) at Penn State (25)

Ohio State’s homecoming game against Michigan State last week was not close at all, although the score would indicate otherwise (24-17). The Bucks will shut up all the critics with a convincing win at Happy Valley. Anthony Morelli is crap. He will be sacked at least four times by Laurinaitis and crew. This Ohio State defense has not given up a TD in five weeks. Look for the WR duo of Brian Robiskie and Brian Hartline to have big games for THE Ohio State. OSU wins 28-3.

California (21) at Arizona State (4)

Can Cal get control of their season after losing two straight games? Rudy Carpenter (QB) will do well for the Sun Devils. In order for the Bears to win, Nate Longshore needs to have a nearly flawless game. Justin Forsett (RB) will continue to do well for Cal. As long as Longshore does not throw any interceptions, Cal can win this game. However, I think the Sun Devils will win at home in a close game: 44-42.

Florida (11) at Georgia (18)

This is obviously an SEC match up so it will be over hyped. Florida wins.

Kansas (9) at Texas A&M

Kansas could have some trouble in this game. This game has the potential to be the “Upset of the Undefeated Team” this week. Jorvoskie Lane, It’s your time to shine! Kansas just barely beat Colorado last week 19-14. Aggies win at home.

Hawaii (17) at New Mexico St

No problems here for Hawaii. Colt Brennan continues his tremendous season. He has 2395 yards and 20 TDs this season. Warriors win big: 55-14.

Random Comments of the Week:

Shout Out to Eugene Jarvis. Kent State’s 5’5” RB has 1103 rushing yards this year. He is only a Sophomore Redshirt! He has a total of 10 TDs, 8 rushing 2 receiving. Jarvis deserves some national attention from the media. Give it to him! Anyone that runs for 84 yards in one half against Ohio State’s defense this year is clearly a quality back. He is second in NCAA FBS in total rushing yards. Eugene Jarvis for Heisman!

Note: The rankings used in this post are the BCS Rankings. Undefeated Teams are in bold.
